doubtful bought a 6th ed, book and only played about 7 times, not much 6th ed played at club whilst its the current edition so wont be bothering if I have a choice:) £50 for a new edition after only 2 years is a joke!
Odds are I'll pick it up. From what I've read it solves a lot of problems 6th edition has(broken allies, multi book death stars etc) and you can use virtually anything you want should you choose.
The price tag puts me off. I reckon the big problem wasn't the core rules, it is the awful amount of stinky cheese they churned out in the codexs. Until they flush that away it's still going to be broken, especially if the rumours about 'unbound' army lists are true.
Actually, from what I've experienced in 6th ed,the biggest cheese derived from the core rules, specifically Allies. That's where most power lists stem from. Without the ability to benefit from an allies rules most of the cheese would simply vanish. This seems to have been addressed in 7th but until it's out no one will know for sure.
Where do allies come from? The busted Codex's. Hence the problem. But you're right in as much as without the allies rule you limit the number of deathstars a single player can take, but only time will tell for sure.
The Codex books themselves are not really broken. Sure some are stonger than others, but thats always been the case in 40k( and Fantasy, as well as countless other games). One on one and most books can get a decent fight with a newer updated book.
Being able to ally is not really the probem. The problem is that Allies can take advantage of each others rules, just taking that little thing away instantly shuts down 99% of deathstars, nefarious unit/character combos and similar shenanigans.
For example, the Inquisitor codex ( essentially the Inquisition part of the 5th edition Grey Knight book) itself, is far from amazing. It has some nice toys but nothing fantastic. However, you add an Inquisitor to a pack of Space Wolf Blood Claws andsuddenly they're throwing out 60, STR6 attacks at an opponent that has -1T, not including stuff like psykotroke grenades or whatever wargear the Inquisitor has. Take that same inquisitor and put him in a tooled up 50man IG blob....
I won't even go into how broken deathstars can be.
It definitely has the potential to be horrific but until we know all the variables ( e.g how much D str weapons have been nerfed etc) we won't know for sure. Though at the club I can't see it being a huge problem as very few people have access to the really horrific stuff.
I was watching beasts of war and one of the guys put forward the idea that 40k and fantasy will be getting a new edition every 2 years. To me that's a terrible idea, hope its not!
It's pure speculation ATM. With the recent rule additions ( escalation & stronghold), 6th Ed was a mess and needed addressed, hence the new edition. Oddly with the changes to the phychic phase it is even closer to fantasy that before.
Can't say I've ran into anything yet, maybe thats because of Cryx Oh there's a new FaQ BTW, stops Retribution from having a RNG 50, POW 50 hydra cannon ( thankfully!)
I suppose it depends what they reckon the average gaming lifespan is. If their target market (whatever that is) only stays in the game for a couple of years then it would make sense to redo the game every two years.
Well, GW have managed to surprise us before. Sometimes even positively. See what comes and judge it by it's merits rather than the rumours. Who knows, might even replace 2nd Ed at the club.

Not all games can be as polished as warmachine

Unless I have no choice and 7th ed takes off at club then I will have no choice
